Boathouse District
Carlton Landing is a master-planned resort community in picturesque eastern Oklahoma. Started in 2009 on the banks on Lake Eufaula, the region’s first walkable, mixed-use, urban community is based on the fundamental principles of New Urbanism. Over the next 20 to 30 years the first phase of 55 acres will grow to see more than 3,000 lots in this 1,650 acre development. The developer, The Humphreys Company, a native to Oklahoma and longtime user of the State’s largest lake, shares their vision for this ambitious project.
Johnson & Associates worked with the developers of this project from day one on the innovative design and construction for this community. While it started out as a private development, Carlton Landing is now an officially recognized location. Johnson & Associates has moved from private consulting engineer to the designer and public consultant on this project. The town now has a set of design standards that we implement for every project. We utilized many creative approaches to stormwater control which have prevented the needs for underground pipes. Most of the stormwater system we designed utilized the natural setting of the land, and we purposefully located channels which offset any negative run-off effects. We are extremely proud of the status of this project, which is truly unique to Oklahoma.
